From War To Peace – Jewelry from disarmed and recycled nuclear missile systems

By creating our peace symbol jewelry out of materials recycled from disarmed nuclear weapons,  at From War to Peace we literally turn swords into plowshares. It is the first time in history that the Peace Sign of nuclear disarmament is actually created from disarmed and recycled nuclear weapons, bringing it full circle.
Over 50 years ago, when the superpowers began the nuclear arms race,  a British artist named Gerald Holtom expressed his horror at such a world–and his belief in a better path–with this simple graphic. His icon could be read two ways: as a stick figure of a man in despair. And as shorthand for nuclear disarmament, the letters “N” and “D” taken from the semaphore flags used by sailors to signal over distances.
When Holtom finished his design for the Committee for Nuclear Disarmament, it made its first appearance at the Aldermaston protest march in 1958.

Still a shining icon to millions worldwide who long for peace

His art soon became the universal symbol for nuclear disarmament. In addition, its peace message spread quickly to the US via Bayard Rustin, an activist working with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Later on, American GIs protesting the Vietnam War would paint it on their helmets. For five decades, this eloquent symbol has shown up wherever hatred has raised its head:  on the Berlin wall, on the graves of political victims, at civil rights marches.  Holtom’s extraordinary imagery has been embraced by the world. That’s why we at From War to Peace are proud to ‘keep the circle unbroken’ by creating shining art from the very weapons he dedicated his life to disarming.

If you’re buying a cheap peace symbol made in china, it doesn’t carry the same meaning as the Peace Bronze peace symbol. This is the only peace symbol in the world that walks the talk, made in the USA and created using the very concept it was intended for.
